I read "Night Voices" several years ago and especially liked the characters, although I'm not usually interested in books that deal with apocalyptic scenarios. I found that this "Keelhouse" edition includes that first book and takes the characters on into an unknown future that is more like experiencing the past of eons ago. I really got into it this time. I like a book that explores new worlds (sailing the North Atlantic in the winter to escape natural disasters, building a colony and defending it,and much more.

Doubly delighted to see the two stories were combined into one book. Once again, the author is guilty of keeping me up all night to read "just one more chapter..." of not one, but two very good stories. Could not resist reading the first story all over again.

Full of just as much action as Night Voices, Keelhouse was well worth the wait, as it took me far away with descriptions so vivid you felt you were there, holding your breath or rooting for the characters as the story unfolds....

Could we hope that maybe, someday, there might be more?

Laced with hints of geology, mythology and anthropology, Rob Smith's exciting double-novel, 'Shrader Marks Keelhouse,' rifles the reader with compelling characters and a riveting, page-turning, storyline, filigreed with fantasy. More stories about the early peoples of Eastern Canada (my favorite parts), or even about the Quebecois for that matter, might have hijacked my fifth star.

Recommendation A whale of an adventure tale. An excellent read for fans of adventure, dystopia and/or fantasy--as well as fans of just plain, old-fashioned, good storytelling.
